About Laurel Wade

Dr. Wade is a licensed clinical psychologist who strives to empower her clients to pursue their most valued goals through challenges to health and emotional well-being. Her clinical focus is health psychology, particularly the areas of chronic pain, adjustment to chronic illness or injury, disordered eating, body image concerns, and implementing health-promoting lifestyle changes. 


Dr. Wade is experienced in practicing evidence-based therapy in community mental health clinics, primary care behavioral health, and university counseling settings. Her therapy practice and academic research center fostering resilience to not only cope with challenges, but also to build positive emotions, work confidently toward goals, and maintain fulfilling relationships. Dr. Wade practices Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and positive psychology approaches, capitalizing on the strengths of each individual to form a collaborative and holistic treatment plan. 


Dr. Wade values forming strong, collaborative, trusting, and fun relationships with her clients, aiming to create a safe environment for confronting painful emotions and making 

courageous changes toward improved well-being. Dr. Wade views her clients from a multicultural lens and affirms the expertise each client brings to therapy from their values and lived experience. 


Dr. Wade received her B.S. in Psychology with a second major in Spanish language and cultures from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. She earned her M.Ed. and Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Texas A&M University and completed an APA-accredited predoctoral internship with American University’s Student Counseling Center.
